Linear, transparent and modern - that is the New Centre of the TUM Research Campus Garching.
The idea behind GALILEO: to optimally combine work, science and research with culture, shopping and leisure, so that a research centre becomes a vital city of science.
With up to 1300 seats over three floors, the Audimax is the representative heart of the building. It is also the centre point of the lighting design: like a sun, which shines through the large window front around which everything revolves. Like orbits, light elements are arranged at certain points on the façade, concentrating towards this centre.
In order to make the approximately 200m long building with all its themes more comprehensible to visitors, important points of orientation, recreational areas and intersections of traffic routes are highlighted. Through the passages, the building becomes a bridge over the daily flow of people who pass through. This flow is guided through the building by a linear, in places cumulative arrangement of luminaires.
Scattered light coming from the interior spaces is taken into account in this concept.
Gabriele Allendorf's lighting design not only contributes to the special design of the research centre with a clear concept arranged according to signal aspects, but also provides a lighting experience.
